Introduction
The Island Government of Sint Eustatius is in a period of transition and capacity building. To strengthen the Governor’s office and prepare for the appointment of a permanent Chief of the Cabinet, we are seeking an Interim Chief of the Cabinet (Quartermaster) for a six-month assignment.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced professional who can quickly bring order, clarity and stability to a developing team and organisation. The Quartermaster will focus on laying the administrative and organisational foundation that will enable the future Head of the Cabinet and the Governor’s Cabinet as a whole to function with confidence, structure and integrity. This manager will actively foster constructive working relationships with all internal and external partners, locally, regionally and within the Kingdom.
Purpose of the role
The Interim Chief of Cabinet (Quartermaster) supports the Island Governor in managing and strengthening the daily operations of the Governor’s Cabinet. The role focuses on creating structure, “cleaning up” and documenting processes and embedding clear working arrangements across the team. The position combines practical leadership with process management and short-term organizational improvement.

What you’ll do
During this six-month quartermaster phase, you will:
• Review, streamline, and document existing workflows, procedures, and
administrative processes within the Governor’s Cabinet.
• Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to the Cabinet team, fostering calm,
clarity, and professional collaboration.
• Support the Island Governor in daily coordination, ensuring timely preparation of
meetings, correspondence and official matters.
• Strengthen internal communication and cooperation between the Cabinet, the
Public Entity organization and external partners.
• Establish and secure agreements and working methods that can be transferred to
the permanent Chief of the Cabinet.
• Identify areas for improvement in the Cabinet’s organization and propose concrete
solutions to enhance efficiency and reliability.
What you bring
• A completed academic education (university level) in public administration, law,
political science or a comparable field.
• Demonstrated experience in organizational change, interim management, or public
administration in a political–administrative setting.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills — able to bring order to complex or
fast-moving environments.
• A practical, hands-on mindset with a focus on execution, results and followthrough.
• The ability to support and coach a young, developing team with clarity and empathy.
• Excellent command of English (Dutch is an advantage).

The Statia Government is in a period of transition and capacity building. The organisation is working to further strengthen its administrative and operational structure with the goal of being a stable, professional and service-oriented government for the people of the island.
The Governor of Sint Eustatius represents the King and the Government of the Netherlands on the island. The Governor is supported by the Governor’s Cabinet, which is responsible for providing advice, preparation and assistance with official and delegated tasks.
The Cabinet consists of a Head of the Cabinet, a Policy Adviser, a Policy Employee, an Administrative Employee and a Secretary to the Governor. The Cabinet also includes the Integrity Office, staffed by two Integrity Advisers.
